The Los Angeles Chargers announced Friday that they have agreed to a deal with quarterback Trey Lance.
According to published reports, the deal is for one year and worth up to $6.2 million.
Lance figures to be the third-string quarterback behind starter Justin Herbert and veteran reserve Taylor Heinicke.

Trey Lance was the third overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers.
He played in six games in 2021, making two starts, and passed for 603 yards, five touchdowns and two interceptions.
He began the 2022 season as the San Francisco starter but sustained a season-ending ankle injury in Week 2. Later that season, Brock Purdy established himself as the 49ers’ starter.

The Seattle Seahawks signed tight end Eric Saubert, an NFL journeyman most recently with the San Francisco 49ers, as a free agent on Monday.
Saubert, 30, has played eight NFL seasons, appearing for the Atlanta Falcons (2017-18), Chicago Bears (2019), Jacksonville Jaguars (2020), Denver Broncos (2011-21), Dallas Cowboys (2023), Houston Texans (2023) and San Francisco (2024).
His best season on offense came in 2022, when he hauled in a career-high 15 receptions for 148 yards and a touchdown for Denver.
Eric Saubert has become valued for both his special teams contributions and blocking ability. Last season, he appeared in all 17 games for the 49ers, logging 302 special teams snaps.
He played 377 offensive snaps, catching 11 of his 14 targets for 97 yards and a TD.
