Charles Oakley finally addressed the long-standing rumors about his romantic history with former “Real Housewives of Atlanta” star Sheree Whitfield during the explosive Season 16 reunion. The NBA legend confirmed details about their relationship that had been circulating for months, providing fans with insight into their past connection.
The topic came up when Phaedra Parks mentioned her knowledge of the former couple during Part 3 of the reunion special. Her comment prompted host Andy Cohen to ask for more details about the relationship that took place nearly two decades ago.
“I know Shereé very well, and I remember when y’all were a couple at one point,” Phaedra said to Charles, who confirmed the relationship by stating, “Me and Shereé [were] a couple.”
Charles revealed that their romance lasted for a significant period, telling Cohen they dated for “a couple of years.” The relationship appears to have been serious, with the couple traveling extensively together during their time together.
The former New York Knicks player shared that their relationship involved considerable trips and shared experiences. “We [were] going places, doing things,” Charles explained. “Going to Dubai, around the country— I mean, we were moving.”
Angela’s Perspective on the Past
Charles’s current wife, Angela Oakley, had previously addressed the rumors about her husband’s relationship with Sheree when she appeared on “Watch What Happens Live” earlier in the year.
“You know what, Charles has dated many women back in the day, so yeah, I think the rumors are true,” Angela said during her March appearance on the show. “But it’s nothing we talk about. So no, I don’t run into Sheree, and that’s that.”
Marriage Reflections and Moving Forward
Charles used the reunion as an opportunity to address criticism about his demeanor toward Angela during the season. Some viewers had questioned whether he truly cared for his wife based on their on-screen interactions.
The former basketball player defended his approach to showing affection on television, explaining that he prefers to keep their private moments genuine rather than perform for cameras.
“I’m not the guy who’ll just be all over Angela on TV,” Charles said during the reunion. “I don’t try to put on for cameras. She knows I love her, and I wouldn’t be here if I didn’t love her and the kids.”
Charles also credited therapy with helping to strengthen their marriage after facing various challenges. He praised their therapist, Dr. Wendy, for helping him become more accountable and open in their relationship. As Charles concluded about their marriage journey, “I’m just glad Angela stayed strong and stayed with me.”
Meanwhile, Sheree has remained focused on her own life, continuing to build her activewear brand, She by Shereé, and maintaining her career as a fitness coach.
