Charlie Coyle's Days With the Colorado Avalanche Likely Numbered After Latest Report

Per new reports, it doesn't sound as though the Colorado Avalanche and forward Charlie Coyle, who they acquired from the Boston Bruins, are going to continue their relationship for much longer.

The Colorado Avalanche were along the more busy teams at the Trade Deadline in March, acquiring forward Charlie Coyle from the Boston Bruins and Brock Nelson from the New York Islanders.

Colorado hoped that they'd be able to help lead them on a lengthy playoff run, only to have their Stanley Cup dreams crushed by the divisional foe Dallas Stars in the WCQF in a heartbreaking 7 game series highlighted by ex-Avalanche star Mikko Rantanen's natural hat trick in the 3rd period of the decisive game.

Since then, the Avalanche re-signed Nelson to a multi-year contract extension, but the future of Coyle in Colorado doesn't look as promising.

NHL analyst Frank Seravalli has already expressed doubt about the chances of a contract extension for Coyle with the Avalanche:

There are questions about the fit of Charlie Coyle in Colorado.

Things weren't helped when superstar forward Nathan MacKinnon was seen screaming at Coyle during Game 5 against the Stars following a failed power play chance.

Coyle does have another year remaining on his current contract, but given MacKinnon's explosion on him during the postseason, the Avalanche may decide that it's best if both parties go their separate ways and explore the trade market for him.

After he landed in Colorado, Coyle's production was consistent, scoring 13 points (2G, 11A) in 19 games, including a 6 game point streak to close out the regular season.

He has 485 points (189G, 296A) in 950 career NHL games with the Minnesota Wild, Bruins and Avalanche.
