The fate of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter remains a mystery. While several peripheral cast members claim the series has been canceled, there have been hints that filming might be underway. While MTV is leaving viewers waiting for an answer, the show’s stars are using social media to connect with their fan base. Cheyenne Floyd just used Snapchat to, once again, explain how she joined the cast of Teen Mom as a 20-something new mom.
When did Cheyenne Floyd join the cast of ‘Teen Mom’?
Cheyenne Floyd and her daughter Ryder officially joined the cast of Teen Mom OG in 2018. The additioin of Floyd in season 8 of the show was part of a major cast shakeup. She largely served as a replacement for Farrah Abraham. Abraham, an original cast member, left the series after the network lambasted her adult entertainment career.
While MTV tried to hype the new cast member, the addition of Floyd didn’t sit well with everyone. Fans were quick to question exactly what she was doing on a show about teen parents. After all, she was not one. They theorized that Floyd’s connection to Cory Wharton was the reason MTV was willing to take a chance on her. Wharton, the father of Floyd’s eldest child, was well known to MTV fans. The complex nature of their co-parenting relationship likely appealed to casting directors as well.
Cheyenne defends her inclusion in the show
Cheyenne Floyd is well aware that Teen Mom fans don’t think she belongs on a series about teen parents. She’s defended herself multiple times over the years, and just recently opened up about the casting decision again. During an unusual Snapchat confessional, Floyd revealed that a personal video led to her casting. In the upload, she claimed that a video of her revealing Ryder’s paternity somehow fell into the hands of Viacom executives, and they liked her backstory enough to reach out.
Floyd went on to claim neither she nor Wharton knew what they were originally signing up for. She claims she didn’t know she would be filling a role on Teen Mom right away. Despite all of that, she insists she can relate to her co-stars. Floyd said she believes the problems she faced during her pregnancy and the early yeara of her daughter’s life are the problems her co-stars faced. Fans were quick to drag her for the comments on other social media platforms. Several followers pointed out that Floyd was a “young” mother, but she was not a teen mother, and she certainly had more privilege when she found out she was expecting than most of the other cast members who have appeared on the show. She hasn’t commented further.
