Chicago Blackhawks Re-Sign Joey Anderson After No Qualifying Offer

The Blackhawks took the risk and re-signed Anderson after not sending the RFA a qualifying offer the day prior to free agency.

Joey Anderson was one of seven Chicago Blackhawks players not given qualifying offers, but is the first one to be signed after the fact. His deal comes in at two years and $800,000 AAV.

The 26-year-old finished up his most successful season in the NHL playing 55 games for the Blackhawks, recording five goals and 17 points. He was part of Chicago's line that shut down opponents along with Jason Dickinson and had the highest +/- on the team with a +5 rating.

Anderson is a bottom-6 player and with the additions the Blackhawks have made, should still get in a good number of games this year in Chicago. There is now much more competition in the lineup to get into games, but after his strong play once he was recalled, it'll be tough to see him back down in the AHL again.

Chicago is the third team that Anderson has played for in his 151 game career and he has a total of 19 goals and 39 points. He is a necessary piece to help the Blackhawks succeed, but the team got a lot better pretty quickly up front. Spots will be up for grabs in training camp and expect a hard effort by Anderson to earn his.
