As the One Chicago franchise gears up for its fall 2025 return, co-creator and executive producer Dick Wolf is breaking his silence on the future of the powerhouse NBC drama universe. Amid a wave of cast exits, story restructuring, and behind-the-scenes shifts, fans have questioned whether Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med can maintain their momentum.

Wolf, however, remains confident.

“These shows have weathered storms before,” he said in a recent statement. “What matters is that they stay true to their emotional core—storytelling about people who risk their lives for others.”

The upcoming season brings major change. On Chicago P.D., the departure of Toya Turner (Officer Kiana Cook) and the introduction of a new ATF officer signal a fresh narrative direction. Chicago Fire continues to navigate the uncertainty surrounding Severide’s status, while Chicago Med is expected to deepen its exploration of leadership conflict and patient-driven arcs.

Despite the shake-ups, NBC has renewed all three series through 2026, a move that reaffirms the network’s faith in its Wednesday-night juggernaut.

Insiders say the franchise is moving toward more serialized storytelling, richer character development, and thematic crossovers. While some fans have expressed concern over losing key characters, Wolf insists that evolution is part of what’s kept One Chicago alive for over a decade.

“We’re building the next chapter,” he added. “This universe is here to stay.”

The new seasons of Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med are scheduled to premiere in late September 2025.
