Chicago Fire is back. The firefighting drama had a fraught episode last week, both onscreen and off. "Post Mortem" detailed what could be a career ending injury for Jack Damon (Michael Bradway) and NBC confirmed that Darren Ritter (Daniel Kyri) and Sam Carver (Jake Lockett) will be written off the show before season 14.
"Permanent Damage" is going to be a return to a more case-of-the-week type story, which is nice considering it will give Carver a chance to shine will he's still part of the show. The episode will see the returning firefighter team up with Violet Mikami (Hanako Greensmith) to investigate a mystery medic whose decision to abandon a patient nearly led to the patient's death.
"Permanent Damage" will represent the a full-fledged return for Carver, after the character missed a handful of episodes to attend rehab. He was present for "Post Mortem," and there was even a scene where the show made it seem as though he was the one injured instead of Damon, but he didn't really get a chance to reconnect with his co-workers or provide updates on how he's been doing.
Chicago Fire knows what it's doing by teaming Carver and Violet up, given the long and messy romantic history between them. They have not had the easiest season together, as evidenced by the fact that their argument was the straw that broke the camel's back and sent Carver to rehab. Violet has carried a lot of guilt with her since, so it'll be nice to see the two characters navigate this tension as the investigation unfolds.
We will provide updates on "Permanent Damage" in real time!
