After weeks of fan outrage over Chicago P.D.’s controversial Season 12 finale, showrunner Gwen Sigan is finally speaking out—and she’s not ignoring the noise.
In a new interview, Sigan directly addressed the wave of backlash that followed the explosive episode, which featured a polarizing character exit and a cliffhanger that many fans called “unearned” and “rushed.”
“We heard you,” she said. “We know it didn’t land the way we hoped for a lot of fans. This cast and story mean everything to us, so when it doesn’t hit the mark, we take it seriously.”
The finale saw major shakeups—including the emotional fallout of Halstead’s long absence, tensions within Intelligence, and a jaw-dropping final scene that left loyal viewers divided. Social media exploded with criticism, memes, and calls for better writing in Season 13.
While Sigan didn’t offer spoilers, she promised that the team is “recalibrating” for next season, with a focus on character-driven arcs, emotional payoff, and honoring what fans love most: loyalty, conflict, and earned growth.
Whether it’s too little, too late remains to be seen—but this is the first sign that the powers behind Chicago P.D. are finally listening.
