‘Chicago P.D.’ Season 12, Episode 19 Sneak Peek: Cook Leads the Charge in Murder-Robbery Case

Chicago P.D. Season 12 introduced a fresh face to the Intelligence Unit in Officer Kiana Cook (Toya Turner), a patrol cop who made a strong impression in her debut during the second episode.

Since then, Cook has steadily proven herself, navigating high-pressure situations and earning her place alongside the seasoned team. Her arc took a major leap in Episode 7, where she undertook her first undercover assignment, a mission that nearly went sideways when her cover was blown. While recent episodes have seen her play more of a supporting role as the spotlight shuffled between the unit's older members, Cook is set to step back to the forefront in the upcoming episode, "Name Image Likeness." Episode 19 sees Cook work with an informant on a murder-robbery case for the first time. NBC has released a snippet of the next episode along with a synopsis that reads:

Cook works with a confidential informant for the first time in a robbery-murder case with links to a star college athlete."

A former tactical unit officer who worked in patrol before Jason Voight (Jason Beghe) bumped her up to the Intelligence team, Cook is no stranger to murder cases, thus, the robbery-murder case in the next episode will see her operating in familiar territory. However, what sets this case apart is that it marks her first time working with a confidential informant. While it remains to be seen how she handles the added complexity, the preview teases some obstacles ahead.

The promo clip opens with Cook guiding Voight through the scene of a high-end robbery, where several expensive items have been stolen. Back at the precinct, she briefs the Intelligence Unit on potential suspects, one of whom, according to Adam Ruzek (Patrick Flueger), is “a basketball superstar.” The young athlete is a fast-rising, in-demand talent, as a woman, likely his attorney, claims that his name and image are worth $4 million. She firmly insists that any police involvement could damage his future, saying, “He’s not going anywhere near the police.” Voight isn’t buying it. “So you’re saying this kid’s above the law?” he counters. If history is any guide, the team won’t let legal posturing stand in their way as they’ll likely bait the suspect to gather the required evidence.

Will 'Chicago P.D.' Be Renewed For Season 13?

As Chicago P.D. Season 12 approaches its finale, fans are beginning to wonder about the show’s future beyond the current season. While NBC has yet to make an official renewal announcement, there’s little cause for concern. Alongside its One Chicago counterparts, P.D. has remained a ratings powerhouse for the network. The recent three-way crossover event was a clear win, with the Chicago P.D. segment pulling in 6.4 million viewers and earning a solid 0.5 demo rating. Given its consistent performance, a renewal feels all but guaranteed, and it’s likely just a matter of time before NBC makes it official.

Episode 19's "Name Image Likeness" airs next Wednesday, April 23, 2025, on NBC.
