After years of heartbreak, high-stakes cases, and near-death moments, Chicago P.D. finally gave fans the long-awaited Burzek wedding — but not everyone felt fully satisfied… including the bride herself.
In a candid new interview, actress Marina Squerciati, who plays Kim Burgess, opened up about the emotional day — and what she wished had been included. “It was beautiful,” she said, “but there were moments I definitely hoped to see… like actual vows.”
Yes, you read that right — no vows were exchanged on-screen. And while many fans chalked it up to the couple’s understated style, Marina confessed she wanted more emotional depth. “We’ve been through so much with them. I think hearing them say something — anything — to each other would’ve hit really hard,” she explained.
The wedding scene, while romantic and meaningful, took place in a quiet courthouse setting. With no frills and minimal dialogue, it emphasized the couple’s commitment without drama — but some viewers were left craving that big, tear-jerking moment.
Squerciati also hinted that she and co-star Patrick John Flueger (Adam Ruzek) had joked about writing their own vows behind the scenes — “Just for fun… but it turns out we kind of needed them!”
Still, Marina is proud of how far #Burzek has come and hopes fans will appreciate the simplicity as a reflection of their journey. “Sometimes love doesn’t need a lot of words,” she said. “But let’s be real — a few wouldn’t have hurt.”
As for whether we’ll get a vow renewal or another romantic moment in Season 12? Marina winked: “Never say never.”
