Chicago P.D. fans hoping for more romantic tension between Hank Voight and ASA Chapman were hit with a crushing update — and it’s not the news they wanted.
After the Season 11 finale hinted at something deeper brewing between Voight (Jason Beghe) and Chapman (Sara Bues), showrunner Gwen Sigan has officially shut the door on any immediate future for the pair. In a recent interview, Sigan confirmed: “Their relationship has hit a wall — at least for now.”
The news comes as a disappointment to many fans who saw Chapman as a rare emotional anchor for Voight. Their late-night phone calls, quiet moments, and shared trauma hinted at something real — something human — for the usually guarded Intelligence boss.
So what happened?
“It’s not that they don’t care about each other,” Sigan explained. “But they’re fundamentally different people with very different visions for justice. That makes a relationship impossible in the world they live in.”
And while the showrunner didn’t completely rule out a future reconciliation, she made it clear that Voight’s focus going forward will be grief, guilt, and leadership — not love.
Still, for fans who were rooting for this unexpected connection, the update stings. The chemistry was real. The timing? Brutal.
Whether or not Voight and Chapman find their way back to each other, one thing’s for sure — Chicago P.D. isn’t done breaking our hearts just yet.
