In the days leading up to the season 12 finale, ScreenRant's Rachel Foertsch discussed what's to come for Voight and Chapman with Chicago PD showrunner Gwen Sigan. As many know, the show has yet to directly address Chapman's confession. Instead, Voight and Chapman skirt around it as they work to take Deputy Chief Charlie Reid. With the finale on the horizon, though, there's no better time to revisit Voight and Chapman's romance. Check out Sigan's quote below:
ScreenRant: There's been a potential romance lingering between Voight and Chapman. Will either the finale or next season revisit that plotline?
Gwen Sigan: Yeah, definitely. You'll see some of it in the finale. I think it's really intertwined with the Reid story. The way that we set out to work on the finale was definitely to have Chapman sort of be this angel on his shoulder, and be this more ethical, more moral person that he could rely on. She is really trying to get Voight to a place of, "Let me help you, let me do this the right way. There are still options for us." And that also is interwoven into this idea of how Chapman's been very honest about her feelings for him. She's also aware that he, perhaps, isn't the most capable of having relationships in the way that she might want, but there does reach a point for everybody where, if you're giving, giving, what are you getting back in return? And so we see some of that in their relationship in the finale. They don't really have a line right now, and do they need one? And where is it going to go? So we'll answer some of that in the finale.
What Gwen Sigan's Comments Mean For The Chicago PD Season 12 Finale
Voight & Chapman's Romance Will Resurface
Given how much will be going on in the Chicago PD season 12 finale, there won't be much time for Voight and Chapman to have an in-depth conversation about their feelings. They must take down Reid, who fired Kim Burgess and Dante Torres and disbanded the Intelligence Unit in episode 21. Burgess and Adam Ruzek are also getting married. So, based on all the chaos imbued in the finale, fans shouldn't expect to see much time spent on Voight and Chapman's romance. However, according to Sigan, the episode won't end without a little update concerning the couple.
Our Take On Voight & Chapman's Future In Chicago PD
Voight Could Use A Little Bit Of Love In His Life In Season 13
Even though Voight isn't the best person to engage in a romantic relationship, it would be interesting to see him trying to navigate one in Chicago PD. It also wouldn't hurt to see him happy. The finale could easily end with Voight turning Chapman down. However, it could also conclude with the promise that their friendship will blossom into something more in season 13. Whatever the case, viewers will get answers when the Chicago PD season 12 finale circles back to Voight and Chapman's will-they/won't-they storyline.
The Chicago PD season 12 finale, "Vows," airs on Wednesday, May 21, at 10 pm ET on NBC.
