Chicago PD season 13 is happening, but not for some time (as summer hiatus begins)

We'll get to see Chicago PD season 13 sometime in 2025.

There’s no doubt that the Chicago PD season 12 had us on the edges of our seats. With the way everything ended, we need more of the series. This is where we have a mixture of good and bad news.

Chicago PD season 13 is officially happening, and that’s the great news. Now for the bad news: we have a long wait. It’s time for the summer break, but at least we know we’ll get new episodes in 2025.

Why is Chicago PD now on a break?

Like other broadcast networks, NBC runs the regular season from September to May. The network was one of the last to bring us some season finales, once again, getting us into the middle of May. This does help to keep the summer break a little shorter, but it doesn’t change the disappointment that we need to wait.

The break is two-fold, though. The first is that the writers need time to create new episodes and then those episodes need to be produced. The writers room tends to open in May or June, with production starting in July. There are enough weeks to get a few episodes in the bank by September.

Another reason is due to the way people stop watching TV live in the summer months. We go on vacation, or we want to spend time outside while the weather is great. The last thing we want to do is be stuck watching shows, but come the fall, that’s all we want to do!

When will Chicago PD season 13 premiere on NBC?

In some good news, we know that the series will be back this year. NBC has already announced that Chicago PD season 13 will air on Wednesdays, with One Chicago night staying as we’ve come to know it. It makes sense considering the three shows are the most popular on the network. Why change something that is working?

There isn’t a set date just yet, but we know the show will return in the fall. That suggests that we’ll get it in September or October, which is the time most broadcast networks bring their shows back. NBC likes the end of September, so that’s when we’re looking at, and we’ll know more in June or July as NBC sets the premiere dates.

Chicago PD is available to stream on Peacock.
