The New York Rangers have some big decisions to make that will dictate the direction of the franchise.

After a dreadful month of December, the Rangers are starting to get back on track as they hold a 4-1-2 record through January thus far.

The big question is does this recent jolt of hope change Chris Drury’s mindset going into the NHL Trade Deadline on March 7?

With the Rangers falling out of the playoff picture, all signs pointed toward the team taking a selling approach come trade deadline time.

“Right now, they’re trending to be sellers,” NHL insider Frank Seravalli said. “But, I still don’t believe that Chris Drury is going to sit back and do nothing.

“I think they’re going to be buyers for the long haul, but maybe not fixing this season, if that makes any sense.”

Some speculate that Drury will look to trade players on expiring contracts.

The Rangers' unrestricted free agents this summer include Reily Smith, Ryan Lindgren, Jimmy Vesey, Will Borgen and Jonathan Quick.

If the Rangers truly get their game back on track and find themselves in a playoff position in a few weeks, that selling mindset may change from Drury.

In the heat of a playoff push, it would be a disservice to Rangers fans to just give up on winning a Stanley Cup in hopes of accumulating more assets.

The Rangers may not look like a Stanley Cup contender right now, but this team has shown what they are capable of, and anything is possible once in the playoffs.

Drury will have to carefully evaluate the Blueshirts over the next month and determine what direction he wants to take because there are high stakes in whichever route he decides to go.
