One of the biggest unknowns going into the offseason for the New York Rangers is what the future holds for Chris Kreider.

After a season in which Kreider regressed in every statistical category while also dealing with numerous injuries, the growing sentiment is that Rangers president and general manager Chris Drury will attempt to trade the veteran forward.

This also comes after Drury shopped Kreider at the beginning of the 2024-25 campaign as that became public, making for a very awkward situation within the Rangers organization.

It almost feels like a certainty that Drury will attempt to move off of Kreider, but that doesn't necessarily mean he’ll be able to do so.

“Kreider is just 11 goals away from second all-time for the Original Six franchise and he isn’t interested in leaving,” NHL insider Frank Seravalli wrote. “He has a 15-team ‘no-trade’ that could complicate things for Chris Drury. But if we’ve learned anything with Drury (see: Jacob Trouba), when he is motivated to make change, he’ll find a way to see it through.”

When asked about his future during exit interviews, the 33-year-old emphasized his love for New York and desire to remain a Ranger.

“This is home for me," Kreider said. “This is the organization that gave me an opportunity to live out my dream. I've developed so many incredible relationships and grown up and spent so much time in this area. So, obviously, this is where I want to be and this is the group that I want to help in whatever fashion win hockey games.”

Kreider remains under contract for two more years at a cap hit of $6.5 million, which may lead to some trouble moving him, given his age and recent decrease in production.

The Rangers also have a new head coach in Mike Sullivan and it’s unclear what his communication with Kreider has been like as of right now.
