Christian Watson's family makes bold statements after Packers draft a wide receiver in the first round and shake up the depth chart

Not everybody is happy that the Green Bay Packers finally drafted a wide receiver in the first round after 23 years. During the special night, some members of Watson's family were on a podcast and reacted in real time to the Packers' decision to select Matthew Golden with the 23rd overall pick.

Christian's father Tazim Wajid Wajed (formerly known as Tim Watson), who's a former Packers safety in the 1990s, had a strong reaction to the decision.

"It is what it is," Wajed said. "More power to the young man, but I'm going to tell you right now: They deserve whatever they get. They deserve whatever they get."

As Packers president/CEO Mark Murphy was announcing the draft selection, Christian's brother Tre Watson, who is also a former football player, called the Packers "idiots" because of their choice.

"These idiots, man," Ter said. "They don't want to win, man."

Situation

Christian Watson's future with the Packers is a little bit murky, despite the team's decision to draft a wide receiver in the first round. Watson suffered an ACL injury in Week 18 against the Chicago Bears and is expected to miss something around two thirds of the regular season.

Watson is entering the final year of his rookie deal, and as a second-round pick there's no fifth-year option available. He was the 34th overall pick in 2022.

And after taking Matthew Golden, the Packers are more comfortable to make their decision next offseason. In addition to Watson, Romeo Doubs and Mecole Hardman are unrestricted free agents, while Bo Melton and Malik Heath are slated to be restricted free agents.
