The Cincinnati Bengals are off to a disappointing 4-6 start to the 2024 season, which means everything a player says is put under a microscope.
Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow is currently under the microscope for a controversial press conference ahead of a must-win matchup with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Cincinnati Bengals QB Joe Burrow’s language during a press conference drew attention
While addressing how pass catchers express their desire to get the ball more, Burrow jokingly responded with a list of ways that is done. Burrow lightheartedly dropped what he considered his first “F-bomb” in a press conference.
While a 27-year-old man using a curse word is enough to draw attention just because of the setting, it wasn’t what he said that sparked true controversy. The true source of controversy surrounding this Burrow snippet is how he said what he said.
The Bengals are barely keeping their head above water at 4-6 and some might even say they are drowning. Meanwhile, they have a wide receiver who leads the NFL in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. They also have a pass rusher who leads the league in sacks.
Not to mention, Burrow himself is atop the NFL in a slew of significant quarterbacking statistics (yards, touchdowns and PFF rating). For Cincinnati fans, the sky is falling. That is why Burrow’s cheery disposition during the press conference has rubbed them the wrong way. Other fans are happy to see Burrow being loose ahead of a season-defining game.
