Cole Caufield Honours Gaudreau in Special Way With New Gesture

The Montreal Canadiens have had a very up and down season.

For much of it, it has appeared as though the team would be nowhere near playoff contention.

However, a couple hot streaks including their current 7-1-2 run over their last ten games have put the team just a single point behind the New York Rangers for the final playoff spot in the eastern conference.

That being said, one of the bigger storylines surrounding the team this season has been Cole Caufield and his efforts to honor the memory of the late great Johnny Gaudreau.

Gaudreau was a mentor and good friend of Caufield, who looked up to him as one of the other short players in the league.

After all, it is hard to make it in the NHL under 5'10' and both Johnny and Cole have done it.

Caufield chose to honor Gaudreau in a big way before the season started when hechanged his jersey number to 13, Johnny's old number.

The change seems to have worked out for him as well as he has a new career high in goals with 33 and is on pace to crush his career-high in points of 65.

Recently though, it was revealed that the young forward is honoring Johnny in another way.

Instead of his last name on his sticks, they read 'ELOC,' or Cole backwards, a nickname given to him by Johnny.

The hockey world is still grieving the loss of Johnny and Matthew. May they rest in peace.
