Mikko Rantanen is now locked in as a Colorado Avalanche rival for years to come, and unsurprisingly, their fans won't be too welcoming during his returning as he officially makes his return this week for the first time.
The Colorado Avalanche traded away Mikko Rantanen earlier in the season after he turned down their contract offer, but just a few weeks later, he was sent back to the Western Conference, landing with their division rival Dallas Stars.
Unsurprisingly, when he accepted an eight-year deal for $12 million AAV, Avalanche fans were not very happy, as many believe they could have locked him in on that deal before trading him, as his agent potentially overreached in this situation.
On Sunday, the superstar winger will return to Ball Arena in Colorado for the first time as a rival player, and given how tight the race is in the Central Division, the fans in attendance will be intense in this one.
On social media, the question was then posed, how will you welcome Rantanen back to his former home when he arrives in a Stars sweater for the first time?
Again unsurprisingly, the overwhelming majority revealed that they would boo No. 96, despite all that he gave the franchise over the past several years as he ultimately ended up with a fierce, bitter rival in the Dallas Stars.
For Rantanen however, he's part of one of the most loaded forward groups in the NHL alongside Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, Wyatt Johnston, Matt Duchene and many other top level talents, so it's very likely that this won't effect him too much, and with eight years of this ahead, it's safe to say that he'll get used too it over time.
