Colorado great Shedeur Sanders already doing something no rookie has ever done in NFL or Browns community

The Cleveland Browns are in an interesting position when it comes to their quarterback room. One name to watch closely is Shedeur Sanders, as the team is still evaluating how to handle his development. According to Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, Sanders performed so well at the end of spring ball that he has a legitimate chance to compete for the starting job when training camp begins.

“The good news for Sanders, the Browns’ fifth-round pick out of Colorado, is that he performed so well over the final two weeks of spring ball that he’ll come back for training camp with a legitimate shot to compete for the starting job, at least in the early going,” Cabot wrote.

Despite the buzz, the Browns are proceeding cautiously with Sanders. The team is facing a tough opening stretch of the season, which is a major reason they’re hesitant to throw the rookie into a starting role too soon.

“The excitement surrounding Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is palpable, but there’s a major reason the organization appears in no rush to throw him into the starting lineup – a murderous early-season schedule that would challenge even the most seasoned NFL veterans,” the Orange and Brown Talk Podcast crew wrote. The panel includes Mary Kay Cabot, Dan Labbe, Scott Patsko, and Ashley Bastock.

For now, veteran Joe Flacco is the presumed starter heading into training camp. While Sanders may not be making an immediate impact on the field, he’s already making waves off of it — in ways rarely seen from a rookie.

“I’ll be honest with you, I’ve never seen what Shedeur Sanders is doing this early on in a player’s career,” Cecil Shorts said on Cleveland’s 92.3 The Fan. “I’ve never seen that before, I’ve never seen a rookie come into the league and before he even played a snap is already in the Garden Valley Projects … All the things he’s doing (in the community). It’s a special thing he’s doing, that’s not normal.”
