Colts coach says Anthony Richarson one-upped Patrick Mahomes, and he had a front-row seat to everything

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Anthony Richardson showed he has the ability to make plays most players can only dream of making.
One throw in particular, Colts head coach Shane Steichen says, is the single best throw he's ever seen. Surpassing a throw he saw Patrick Mahomes make in 2020.

The throw from Mahomes that Steichen is referring to came in 2020, during a Week 2 matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Los Angeles Chargers. Steichen was the Chargers offensive coordinator at the time and had a front-row seat to watch Mahomes make a magical throw. The throw can be seen in the video below.

It was an unreal throw, without a doubt. But in Steichen's opinion, it is not the second most impressive throw he's ever seen. It has now been topped by Richardson's 60-yard touchdown pass to Alec Pierce against the Texans in Week 1. The pass traveled nearly 66 yards in the air, and Richardson took maybe a half step before launching the pass with pinpoint accuracy.

Steichen has been around the NFL world up close and personal, so it definitely means more coming from him, but this throw was also the best throw I've ever seen completed at any level. To hear Steichen say this throw-topped Mahomes, who many believe is the clear best QB in the NFL today, is a huge compliment. The only thing that could have made this throw better is if it would have been in a winning effort, but I think the Colts are expecting to see multiple more jaw-dropping throws from their young phenom during his hopefully long career with the franchise.
