Colts give LT Bernhard Raimann a big extension, and the move adds clarity on a couple of their offseason decisions in the process

NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo has reported that the Colts are signing their talented LT Raimann to a massive four-year, $100 million contract with $60 million guaranteed

The Colts drafted Raimann in the third round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He had steadily improved each season and has now become one of the strongest offensive linemen on the Colts roster. The team has now given him a massive contract extension to reward his hard work. It makes him one of the highest-paid left tackles in the NFL as he joins a list with the best of the best at the position.

His $25 million per year and $60 million guaranteed are tied for the fifth most in the league with Washington Commanders LT Laremy Tunsil. This is drastically more than his rookie deal, which was a four-year contract worth just over $5.3 million, resulting in an annual salary of approximately $1.3 million.

Raimann's extension shines light on a couple of offseason decisions by the Colts that some criticized in the moment

The Colts shocked many people around the NFL this offseason by allowing not just one, but two, offensive line starters to sign elsewhere. With Will Fries and Ryan Kelly both inked deals with the Minnesota Vikings. There were multiple reasons for this decision, one being that the Colts have young linemen they are excited to see develop, such as Tanor Bortolini and Matt Gongalves. Another thought was that they were already preparing for the reality that they would have to pay Raimann handsomely soon. The very near future, apparently, with Raimann’s new deal being agreed to before August even arrived.
