Fans were ecstatic when the Indianapolis Colts selected Anthony Richardson with the fourth overall pick in 2023.
The Florida quarterback was compared to Buffalo Bills superstar Josh Allen in the sense that he wielded a unique combination of speed, power, and a rocket arm. The only catch was that Richardson was an extremely raw prospect, so it would take a few years of seasoning and a bit of luck for these abilities to come to fruition.
Unfortunately, the polarizing quarterback has worn out his welcome in Indianapolis already with the team’s brass bringing in veteran quarterback Daniel Jones as competition.
Before the competition could even begin, Richardson suffered a shoulder injury that sidelined him for the duration of mandatory minicamp.
It is not a death sentence, because he is reportedly set to return by the beginning of training camp, but this will undoubtedly set him back.
Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports recently listed nine players who are running out of chances to prove themselves and Richardson cracked the list.
“After two seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, however, the supersized Florida product has already lost the starting gig multiple times, either due to lingering injuries or untimely inaccuracy,” Benjamin said.
He predicts that Richardson will bust in 2025 and if that happens, it will likely be the end of his tenure in Indianapolis.
No matter how much he’s struggled up to this point in his career, he is still one of the three most talented quarterbacks in the league.
It may not be with the Colts, but if he is ever able to harness his potential, then he will easily be a star.
