The most shocking Indianapolis Colts selection in the 2025 NFL Draft was their choice to use a third round pick on CB Justin Walley.
While the pick seemed shocking, speaking with his college coaches or listening to his new Colts teammates, and you quickly realize Walley has something special about him. He's already turning heads and earned ESPN's biggest surprise player for the Colts from OTAs.

"CB Justin Walley
When the Colts selected Walley in the third round this year, the move felt like a bit of a surprise given the pre-draft projections for the former Minnesota standout. But Walley has been turning heads throughout the offseason with his aggressive coverage and impressive instincts, and it's now clear he has a chance to have a significant role in the defense as a rookie.
The Colts are expected to play a greater variety of coverages this season, and Walley is showing potential in dime packages. Walley is "really sticky in coverage," coach Shane Steichen said. "Has been making a ton of plays through OTAs. So, very pleased with where he is at." -- Stephen Holder- ESPN's Biggest surprise player for all 32 teams from the offseason
The Colts' second starting outside CB job is up for grabs, and it feels like there are four different players who have a viable chance to win it in training camp. Those being Jaylon Jones, Juju Brents, Samuel Womack, and rookie Justin Walley. If I had to pick two that have the best shot right now, I'd probably say Jones and Walley. Jones had a really solid season as a starter last season, which matters, but not as much as it typically would. The reason for this being the Colts' new defensive scheme and new defensive coordinator, Lou Anarumo, which means while Walley is a rookie, he is starting on an even playing field with Jones and others. This battle will definitely be one that fans will want to keep an eye on.
