The news comes a week after the Capitals selected the 18-year-old native of Lethbridge 17th overall in the 2024 NHL Draft in Las Vegas – the fifth player in Prince George Cougars history to be taken in the first round.

The three-year contract will carry an average annual value of $975,000 US.

“He is one of the smartest players I have ever coached with a desire to get better every day,” said Cougars head coach and general manager Mark Lamb. “He has earned this, and the future is so exciting for the Prince George Cougars and Washington Capitals.”

The six-foot, 176-pound Parascak moved up to the WHL last season from Edge School Prep Academy in Calgary and rewrote the Cougars' team record book for rookie scoring, collecting 43 goals, 62 assists and 105 points. He also finished with a plus-49 rating.

Parascak continued his torrid scoring pace in the playoffs with six goals and eight assists in 12 games.

Parascak and graduated Cougars, defenceman Hudson Thornton and centre Zac Funk, are playing this week with the Capitals’ other top prospects in the team’s development camp.
