Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube could end up facing some financial punishment after his post-game comments aimed frustration toward the officiating.
In what is getting to a frustrating boiling point for everyone involved, the Maple Leafs are losers of three in a row, and having been outscored 13-4 over that span, things are getting rough for the blue and white.
Not only has their staunch defense suddenly found itself unable to stop any pressure, a lack of production from their stars, and the general uneasy feeling that surrounds the team as they see their Atlantic Division supremacy slowly fade away.
So it's understandable Craig Berube would be upset, and given how the game against Dallas turned out, he is right to be angry however his frustration might lead him to have a bit of a financial hit.
Craig Berube's Comments Towards Referees May Incite Fine
Berube didn't hold back when it came to the refereeing during Tuesday night's game in his post-game comments:
"They want to call that on John Tavares, that second penalty, but they're gonna let everything else go in the game?"
The coach was referring to a slashing call given to Tavares where he barely grazed a Dallas player and ended up getting two in the sin bin, however the multitude of times the Stars got away with calls irked Berube.
Tavares also relayed his thoughts and wasn't too impressed either:
'I didn't like them, but at the end of the day it's out of your control and we have to find a way to dig deep and continue to play through it. Only so much you can talk to the officials about.'
It was another brutal night for Toronto and the officiating didn't help.
After Auston Matthews got the scoring opened thirty seconds into the game, the team fell silent though it wasn't for a lack of chances; hitting three posts in the first. However, they quickly fell apart and didn't serve any resistance to their opponents.
The fine that may be issued to Berube would be to the tune of $25,000, which in hindsight is a bit of an egregious amount given that NHL players who potentially injure someone or lay a dirty hit get hit with a $5,000 fine; either way the League has its rules.
This certainly won't stop Berube from getting upset, but maybe he'll keep his tirades to on the ice where he can safely scream at the officials without any serious repercussions.
