Anthony Richardson made one of the craziest throws the NFL has ever seen during the Indianapolis Colts Week 1 loss to the Houston Texans.
Many have said they believe it was the single best throw they've ever seen a quarterback complete at any level of football. But during Sunday Night Football's broadcast of the Detroit Lions and Los Angeles Rams, Cris Collinsworth shared that he thinks Matthew Stafford might have had the throw of the year.
Let me start by saying that Matthew Stafford's throw was absolutely ridiculous. He was under pressure and had what appeared to be no angle at making that throw, but he found a way to get the ball out and deliver a dime for the first down.
Where I disagree with Collinsworth is that this throw should top Richardson's 60-yard touchdown to Alec Pierce. I've rewatched the throw well over a dozen times at this point, and I still have no idea how he got the ball to Pierce. Being able to throw the ball in the air over 65 yards after slipping and not even being able to take a full step into the throw shouldn't be possible. But somehow it is for Colts QB Anthony Richardson.
I think it's going to be very difficult for any QB to take the crown of best throw of the year away from Richardson. Maybe not even Richardson himself could replicate that exact play again if they ran it back. Stafford's throw was also impressive I just think we will see similar throws made by multiple talented QBs throughout the 2024 season. I don't think we will see anyone come close to completing a pass as difficult as the one Richardson made in Week 1. And hey, I hope I'm proven wrong because if someone can top it, that throw will be out of this world.
