Cubs’ Michael Busch Named NL Player of the Week

MLB announced Monday that Chicago Cubs first baseman Michael Busch earned National League Player of the Week honors.

In six games last week, Busch posted a .478 batting average while smacking four home runs and two doubles with 11 RBIs, a walk, and seven runs scored. His efforts also led him to a 1.087 slugging percentage and a .480 OBP.

Coming over to the Cubs this past offseason from the Los Angeles Dodgers, Busch has been a bright spot for a Cubs group that has seen a major dip compared to last year’s offensive production. In 140 games this season, Busch is slashing .257/.340/.454 with 20 home runs, 27 doubles, 63 RBIs, 58 walks, and a .793 OPS.

Earlier this year Busch displayed his clutch ability by hitting a walk-off home run against the San Diego Padres.

With just two weeks left in the season and the Cubs' playoff aspirations all but dashed, there will be a lot of questions about the roster heading into the 2025 season. However, Busch has certainly earned himself a starting spot for next year.
