It’s another career win for Cynthia Bailey.
Following The Real Housewives of Atlanta Season 16 finale, the multi-hyphenate took to Instagram to celebrate her next on-screen gig. Cynthia reposted an article announcing her starring role in Diamond, a coming-of-age sports drama written by DeShon Hardy.
“Here we go,” she captioned the July 23 post.
Cynthia Bailey to star in sports drama alongside Vernon Davis
According to Deadline, Cynthia will play the adversity-stricken mother of Diamond McCarren, a teenage basketball prodigy attempting to break the cycle of family trauma. Jemarcus Kilgore will portray the title character, while former NFL tight end Vernon Davis will play Diamond’s incarcerated father.
The film will follow Diamond as he vies for a Division I scholarship — a longtime goal that is derailed after his mother suffers a drug overdose. The incident forces the student-athlete to make a difficult decision: Will he abandon his hoop dreams to care for his mom?
“This story really touched with me,” Cynthia told Deadline. “It showed how families can stay together through any and everything. I wanted the opportunity to play a meaningful role, and when I read this script, I knew this was it.”
The Reel 85 Productions film will start shooting this weekend in Asbury Park, New Jersey.
