Dahlin Still Out, But Could Return Later This Week

Sabres team captain will miss his third straight game with back spasms

The Buffalo Sabres 5-2 loss to the Utah Hockey Club on Saturday was in many ways the low point of the club’s regular season, but they are hopeful that some key players getting back in the lineup will help the Sabres pull out of their six-game losing skid.

Winger Jordan Greenway participated fully in the morning skate on Monday in preparation for the Sabres' game against the Detroit Red Wings. Head coach Lindy Ruff indicated afterward that he could be back after missing more than three weeks with a middle-body injury, but he said it would be a game-time decision.

After watching practice on Sunday, team captain Rasmus Dahlin skated individually before the morning skate. Dahlin will miss his third straight game, but Ruff hinted that there is a reason for optimism that he may return sometime later this week.

“He got a little work today. (I) talked to him post-workout and he said he’s feeling pretty good, so hopeful that we can get him back.” Ruff said.

Defenseman Ryan Johnson, who was recalled from the Rochester Americans last week, practiced alongside Bowen Byram on Sunday and is expected to make his season debut against the Red Wings, but Ruff was unusually guarded about the makeup of his lineup and who would be starting in goal against Detroit.
