Yesterday Carolina Panthers president of football operations and general manager Dan Morgan addressed several topics in his final press conference before the draft. Not surprisingly, Morgan was open to the rumored plan that the Panthers could look to move back in the draft. “I don't really wanna get into specifics on where I would want to trade back to, but we're definitely open to trading back and acquiring more picks, I think we're gonna be open to all possibilities…let's put it that way."
The Panthers aren’t in the market but several teams behind them are, including the division rival Saints who pick 1 spot behind Carolina at 9 overall. The Panthers have also been linked to several wide receivers projected to go later in the 1st round, and Morgan address that position as well. "We're excited about the development of Xavier [(Legette) and Jalen Coker and some of our young guys,” said Morgan. “So with (Adam) Thielen still in there, re-signing David Moore…I think we do feel good about our receiver room. We're looking forward to seeing them compete and just get better and better. That's not to say that we're not gonna invest in a receiver at some point during the draft. So we're just gonna draft really good football players and if it's a wideout, then so be it."
The player perhaps most mocked to the Panthers, Georgia LB Jalon Walker, was also a topic of conversation for Morgan. "I mean, Jalon's a good player,” noted Morgan. “He’s an outside linebacker for us that I feel like could do a lot in our defense. I think he's definitely a great person, really good player and I think he's got a bright future ahead. I think in Jalon's case, he can play on the outside, you can move him inside, you can do a lot of different things with him on the defense, and I know that we do value those type of things and, again, he's a good player."
After months of speculation, all the questions about Dan Morgan’s second draft as the head of the Panthers will thankfully be answered in just 8 days.
