And here we go! John’s been found, Xander’s finally snapped, and Bo may be approaching the point of no return. Plus, we may have gotten a glimpse of Salem’s youngest attempted murderer. It’s been a busy week on Days of Our Lives!
Dear John
First things first: John has been found, and he’s alive and well. And that is a huge problem — because we know this is the story he dies in. So what in the world is going to happen? Something has to go wrong between now and getting him back to Salem. We know this is his final story, without the late Drake Hogestyn being able to appear.
And Susan’s psychic feeling made it clear finding John alive and well isn’t what it seems. Is the plane going to go down on the way back? I’ve been thinking his death will be tied to Bo’s survival, but the writers made sure that if Hogestyn had pulled through, there’d be a way to bring John back. And disappearing in a plane crash is a tried and true method of doing that.
But it also feels a bit sad because that means Marlena won’t get her husband back even for the funeral. Though I suppose they can write John as being found down the line, so they can give him a proper burial. If he does have to donate organs to Bo, that makes leaving his death open-ended trickier — but I still think it would be a beautiful, heroic farewell.
In any case, Hope and Ciara are both back next week, so Bo has to be right behind. And it feels like we’ll finally be getting our answers on John next week, so… brace yourselves.
Medical… Experts?
Sarah not knowing she’s having an allergic reaction is bad enough (I’ve got a friend who’s got a severe nut allergy and trust me, he knows when he’s exposed, even if he doesn’t know there are nuts), but her spending the entire week in the hospital is baffling. I guess it’s not a week, just overnight, since it’s still the weekend of the conference, but still… You’re a doctor, not a theater major, Sarah. Calm the drama down, you don’t need to be wheeled out of the hospital in a wheelchair.
Which brings me to the utterly botched drug theft. Kevin panicking and running off with the entire batch of drugs is kind of hilarious but… What was the plan? I guess mix up a vial and return everything else after, but Dr. Russell ruined that.
In any case, looks like it’s about to get Philip killed! Is it the end of him? Maybe. I don’t see Days of Our Lives allowing Xander to murder his brother in cold blood — in the Salem Inn, no less. But it’s not looking pretty. Spoilers have Kate finding Philip, Alex and Brady fearing the worst, Maggie questioning Xander and Sarah confronting him. Seriously, Philip’s in trouble.
He doesn’t have to die to be out of here. If Xander gives him a bad enough beating, he could be shipped off for recovery and out of Xander’s hair. But that will be a temporary relief for him, because deadly assault is definitely bad for Xander down the line.
Stray Thoughts…
- Kevin popping up is all well and good — I’m happy to have an already established character drop in for an arc, rather than create a new one — but he’s been in Salem for how long and never bothered to say hi to any of the Last Blast crew before he needed something? Weird.
- I jumped the gun a bit on Sarah’s pregnancy last week, but I feel like the story’s going to end up the same way I thought it would. And it won’t be pretty.
- I know the Rachel shooting EJ theory has been floating around the fan-o-sphere for a while now, but up until Wednesday, there just wasn’t really any on-screen evidence to back it up. Well, now we’ve got a ton of evidence! (Admittedly, circumstantial.)
- Is the whole One Stormy Night arc just an excuse to have Stephanie and Alex keep running off and roleplaying? I don’t get where this is going.
- We’re about to see Gabi playing mother — to a teenager! Arianna’s debuting next week.
- I wouldn’t hate seeing Gabi and Alex become actual friends. Note to Days of Our Lives: More friendships, please! (But also, bring Gabi and JJ back together.)
