Marlena and John’s Penthouse: Tate is by himself flashing back to ratting out young Douglas. Sophia arrives and says she hopes this will be the day her mother gives the adoption approval to Johnny and Chanel. She wants to ask the duo a few more questions but thinks her mother has all but decided to move forward with the adoption. Sophia notes his muted reaction, and Tate says he has something else on his mind. She guesses that his concern is about Holly and wonders what she did this time. Tate says he is responsible for his own angst.
Tate tells Sophia everything about Doug stealing Julie’s necklace and how he broke Holly’s trust by ratting him out. Sophia asks why he would rat Doug out. Tate says he hated how much time Holly was spending with Doug and how Holly might have been implicated in the necklace situation. Sophia gets that Tate wanted to punish Doug. He agrees but notes how everything will backfire as Holly will never forgive him.
Kiriakis Mansion – Holly’s Room: (another new outside shot!) Holly is restless as she checks her phone.
Horton House: Maggie arrives to see Julie who is clearly distraught. Julie tells her that she threw Doug out. Maggie inquires and Julie tells her the story about Grandma Alice’s diamond necklace. Maggie is in shock and wonders why he did such a thing. Julie recounts some of his story but says she couldn’t bear to hear his excuses.
Julie thought young Douglas was her miracle when he appeared at the graveside. She thought he was a lovely young man and now her heart is breaking all over again. She goes on to note how Doug simply sat there while Julie accused her brother. Maggie gets how the necklace represents her family. She shifts and asks how Julie found out about the necklace. Julie recounts the situation with Melinda Trask the night before. She continues saying she actually found out about Doug’s involvement when she heard from Tate.
Julie does worry about where young Douglas slept last night and if he is ok. Maggie understands as Doug is family. They joke a bit about his love for Maggie’s lemon bars before Holly thinks about how close Holly and Doug have become. She wonders how much, if anything, Holly knows about this entire situation.
Park: Paulina walks up and doesn’t recognize young Douglas who is asleep on the bench. She thinks he is homeless and leaves her food next to him. His phone awakens him, and he calls Holly who wants to know what happened with Julie. He says she threw him out of the house. Holly thought she would surely give him another chance when he owned up to it, but Doug said she already knew.
Doug and Holly wonder if Melinda might have ratted him out to JJ or Julie, but they conclude that probably wasn’t the case. Holly suddenly realizes Doug had no place to stay and asks where he slept. She freaks out when she learns he slept on a park bench. Holly insists Doug come to her house immediately.
Paulina and Abe’s Place: Johnny sits on the sofa and flashes back to his confrontation with his father. Just then, EJ comes a-knockin and Johnny spies a serrated knife on the table. Johnny opens the door, and EJ asks him to come home. Johnny tries to slam the door in his face, but EJ stops it and walks in.
Johnny reviews all the horrible events about his conception, but EJ says it’s not all so simple. EJ thanks God is son is alive, but Johnny wishes he didn’t exist. He wants nothing to do with his father. EJ asks if he can say a few things and then promises to exit. He takes a seat and explains how and why Samantha Gene forgave the rape. He never excused his behavior, but she knew just how much he loved her.
EJ says partly because of his own upbringing and possibly DNA from Stefano, he has always been prone to impulsive behavior with grave consequences. Samantha understood and loved him despite his massive flaws. EJ wonders if there is any possibility, with time, his son could grant him the same grace.
Johnny says there is no way he could ever forgive his father. He believes everything EJ touches dies. Everyone who gets close to him is destroyed. What his father did to his mother is unforgiveable and Johnny tells him to leave. Before EJ leaves, Johnny looks at the knife and tells his father to wait. He says he is going to send for his and Chanel’s things as his father is dead to him.
