Days of Our Lives Shocker: Johnny Drops a Bombshell on Chanel, Tate, and Sophia — No Adoption for Them!

In the Tuesday, April 29 episode of Days of Our Lives, Philip faced Maggie’s anger and followed it up with a confrontation with Xander. Sarah still hasn’t told her husband the truth. Maggie comforted a lost and hurting Julie, who is missing Doug III, whether she wants to admit it or not. Doug III moved out of the Kiriakis mansion and Holly’s room. And Johnny was adamant about dropping the adoption. Tate, Sophia, and Chanel weren’t happy.

Stop the Adoption

Johnny (Carson Boatman) explained why he no longer thought he could adopt Tate and Sophia’s baby. He told Chanel (Raven Bowens) that ever since finding out how he was conceived, it had messed him up. He is lost and no longer thinks he could be a good dad. Plus, he wondered if EJ’s (Dan Feuerriegel) nastier traits were genetic. He doesn’t want to end up acting like his father, but he must think that’s a possibility.

Chanel tried to understand, but this adoption was something she wanted badly. She had already gone there in her mind. She already envisioned herself as the mother of Tate and Sophia’s baby. Since this was the first time she had heard about Johnny’s doubts, she wanted to continue the discussion that had them on opposite sides of the spectrum.

Unfortunately, Tate (Leo Howard) and Sophia (Rachel Boyd) knocked at the door, bringing a special gift to thank Johnny and Chanel for adopting the baby. It was a scrapbook. Johnny was adamant about letting the teenagers down right then and there. He ripped the band-aid off and told him the adoption couldn’t happen. He didn’t go into the reasons — he simply said they were personal. Chanel tried to hold it together, but she couldn’t.

After an incredulous Tate and Sophia left, Chanel was beyond angry. She asked her husband to go and said she couldn’t even look at him. Johnny claimed they had to tell the truth, but Chanel said that was his truth, not hers. She was devastated that Johnny had decided for both of them. While he’s had weeks to think about this, she’s only had minutes.

The Real Reason

While Johnny and Chanel could have let things simmer a little before telling Tate and Sophia the truth, Johnny did it almost coldly and emotionlessly. Maybe he thinks he’s already turning into EJ, which makes us feel that there’s another reason why he won’t consider it before calling the adoption off.

And that’s because he was the one to shoot his father. We can’t get the shot from DAYS’ weekly video preview, where we see Johnny holding a gun. Maybe that’s why EJ can’t conveniently “remember” what happened the night of the shooting. Johnny wouldn’t want to bring a baby into a situation where he or she would have a father capable of such a malicious act.

Even if Johnny didn’t actually shoot EJ and he almost did, he could think the same thing. Johnny could actually feel like he’s turning into his dad, and he doesn’t want to traumatize the kid with his darkness. In addition, he could end up going to jail. Mrs. Choi (Shi Ne Nielson) would not approve.
