At the Salem Inn, Gwen stared at her empty hotel room safe. Gwen answered a knock at the door. Julie handed a subpoena to Gwen. Julie explained that she was suing Gwen to get her grandmother’s necklace back. “Is this part of some elaborate cover story?” Gwen asked. Gwen told Julie that the necklace was gone.

“What do you mean the necklace is gone?” Julie asked. Gwen told Julie what had happened, and she accused Julie of having stolen the necklace from the safe. Julie countered that Gwen had hidden the necklace and concocted a story to keep Julie from it. Both women denied the charges. “Who the hell has the necklace?” Julie bellowed as she stomped out of the hotel room.

Gabi pushed Tesoro’s stroller into the pub as Doug was on his way out. “I’m Ari Horton’s mom. She told me that you were leaving town. And honestly, I think that’s a very wise decision,” Gabi said. “Please know how terrible I feel about Ari getting involved in this situation. That was never my intention,” Doug stressed. Gabi argued that Doug’s stupid decisions had endangered the lives of two women. Gabi chastised Doug for repaying Roman’s kindness by endangering Roman’s family.

“I wanted to apologize to him in person, but he hasn’t been around. So I wrote a letter for him with my room key included,” Doug said. Gabi promised to make sure to deliver the letter to Roman. As Doug reached into his backpack for the letter, it caught Alice’s necklace. Doug shoved the necklace back in the bag.

Susan visited Johnny and Chanel at their apartment. “I’m here to make sure my precious grandson doesn’t go to prison for a crime he didn’t commit,” Susan said. Chanel told Johnny that she hoped that Susan could use her psychic abilities to help them figure out who had shot EJ. Johnny argued that Susan’s psychic feelings would not hold up in court. Chanel countered that they had few options to track down new leads.

“Does my father know about this?” Johnny asked. “Of course not,” Chanel said. Susan said that she knew that Johnny and Chanel were innocent. After a moment, Susan announced that she needed to go out, and she left. Annoyed, Johnny argued that when he had discussed help with the case, he thought that Chanel would hire a private investigator. Chanel reminded Johnny that they were desperate.

As Gwen exited the hotel, she passed by Doug in the square. Gwen remembered that Doug had posed as room service. Gwen called out to Doug, but he was already gone. While Gwen attempted to call the police, Gabi approached. Gwen and Gabi sniped at one another about their love lives.

“You know, what’s baffling to me, is that the moment that [Dimitri] stepped foot out of that prison, you’d think your husband in name only would have tracked your ass down to demand his money, not to mention a divorce,” Gabi said. Gabi asked Gwen if she had killed Dimitri. As Gabi pushed Gwen for a response, Susan interrupted to demand answers from Gabi. Gabi yelled that she had not shot EJ.

“I heard that since then, you confessed to being there, Miss liar, liar, pants on fire,” Susan said. Gabi claimed that although she had lied, she was innocent. Susan said she intended to prove that Johnny and Chanel were innocent. “You better just pray that I don’t find out it was you, or you are going to be in a world of trouble,” Susan growled.

After Susan marched off, Gwen laughed. Gwen made a crack about Stefan, and Gabi asked if Gwen had spoken to Stefan, because Tony had not heard from him. “Looks like my Dimitri might not be the only DiMera who has gone MIA then,” Gwen said.

Doug knocked on the front door of the Horton house. “What do you want?” Julie asked. Doug announced that he was leaving Salem. “That’s no concern of mine,” Julie said. “Regardless, I have a parting gift for you,” Doug said. Doug gave Julie her grandmother’s necklace. Doug admitted he had stolen it from Gwen. “It doesn’t belong to her. It belongs to you,” Doug said. Julie noted that she did not intend to tell Gwen about Doug’s actions.

“I know I’ve said this before, but I’m really sorry, Julie. About everything. When you took me in, you made me feel so welcome. You showed me so much kindness. So much love. I hadn’t felt that in a long time. And I know that I blew it big time. I broke your heart. And your trust. I’ll always regret that,” Doug said. Julie asked Doug to help her put on the necklace.

As Julie admired the necklace on her in the mirror, she told Doug that it helped her feel closer to her grandmother and mother. Doug noted that one of his most prized possessions was his grandfather Robert’s cufflinks. Julie retrieved her husband Doug’s pocketwatch from the drawer, and she gave it to Doug III. “[Doug] always said it brought him luck. So perhaps it will do the same for you,” Julie said. Doug thanked Julie for her kindness. Julie asked Doug to let her know how much he owed the loan shark, and she would wire him the money.

“What? Why would you do that?” Doug asked. “Well, until you pay off the debt, you’re in danger. I wouldn’t want to see you hurt,” Julie said. Doug was taken aback. “I know this is what my husband would have wanted. And you’re his grandson. And you’re my family,” Julie said. Doug promised to find a way to pay Julie back, but she declined. “I don’t need the money. I need you to stay out of trouble,” Julie said.

“I will. And I know that I’ve hurt a lot of people here. But I promise I’m going to make some changes so I don’t keep making the same mistakes,” Doug said. “I’m glad to hear that,” Julie said. Doug promised to keep in touch. Julie asked Doug to get his life together. “And when you do, come back to Salem. And show me how well you’re doing,” Julie said. Doug agreed.

Brady took Rachel to the hospital to check on Marlena. “Grandma’s going to be okay, right?” Rachel asked Belle. Belle said that Marlena was stressed, but she would be fine. Brady explained that Marlena’s situation was similar to the stomach pain that Rachel had experienced.

Sarah examined Marlena in an exam room, and she insisted on a couple of new tests to make sure that Marlena was healthy. After the exam, Sarah escorted Marlena back to Belle in the waiting area. “I’m feeling much better,” Marlena said. Marlena informed Belle that she was fine, and Sarah told Belle she would call with test results. “Get some rest. And in the meantime, don’t skip any more meals,” Sarah warned Marlena.

After Marlena left with Belle, Brady and Rachel returned from the gift shop. Sarah confirmed that Marlena was doing well. Rachel showed Sarah the present she had bought for Tate’s baby. Brady told Sarah about Sophia’s labor in Chicago. “Tate and I didn’t even get a chance to meet her,” Brady said. Sarah appeared confused. “Her?” Sarah said. With a nod, Brady confirmed the baby had been a girl. Rachel suggested the name Mackenzie for the baby, and Sarah took a step back.

“Don’t you like it?” Rachel asked. “I think that is a beautiful name,” Sarah agreed. As Sarah sniffled back tears, she lied and told Rachel that she had allergies. Brady sent Rachel to the vending machine so that he could apologize to Sarah. “Don’t [be sorry]. Rachel doesn’t know,” Sarah said. “I think she remembers that her Uncle Eric had a baby named Mackenzie,” Brady said. After Brady and Rachel left, Sarah looked up Sophia’s records. “Sophia’s baby was definitely not a girl,” Sarah whispered.

At the penthouse, Belle asked about Marlena’s therapy session with EJ, but she refused to divulge any details about a patient. Belle explained that EJ had told her that he had been unable to remember the shooter. “Do you think it’s simply the trauma of what happened that’s keeping him from remembering or do you think it’s about the identity of the shooter?” Belle asked. “I honestly can’t say,” Marlena said. Marlena repeated that she did not want to talk about EJ’s session.

Belle asked Marlena if she wanted to talk about John and her grief. “What you’re going through, it never, ever leaves my mind,” Belle said. Belle said she trusted that if Marlena wanted to talk about it, she would open up to her, which is why she never mentioned John to Marlena. “It’s what is right for me right now,” Marlena said. Marlena smiled, and she said she wanted to emulate John’s stoicism and bravery.

“But I do want you to lean on me. Okay? Because I’m also trying to emulate Dad. And for me, that means being there for you,” Belle said. Belle told Marlena that she was thankful that they had one another to get them through their grief. Susan visited to check on Marlena. As Susan talked about John, Marlena noted that John had been fond of Susan. After Susan hugged Marlena, she flinched.

“I just get this weird, weird vibe from you,” Susan said. When Marlena asked for details, Belle insisted that Marlena needed to rest. Belle escorted Susan out to her car. When Belle returned, Marlena was asleep on the couch. Marlena dreamed about a time when Stefano had kidnapped her.
