Denzel Washington has confirmed that he will join the Marvel Cinematic Universe in a major movie. The MCU continues to grow year after year, with several rising stars joining the franchise. Likewise, Hollywood veterans also see potential in the franchise, with major names in the entertainment industry, like Harrison Ford, joining the MCU recently. After being requested to come to Marvel for years, Denzel Washington is finally becoming part of the franchise, and his reveal seemingly confirms that the MCU's movie slate will include a major project that has yet to be officially announced.
Speaking to The Today Show, Denzel Washington revealed that he will have a role in Marvel Studios' Black Panther 3.
Washington did not reveal any details about his MCU character, simply saying that Black Panther franchise director Ryan Coogler is writing a role for him in the franchise's next film. Marvel Studios has yet to announce that it is moving forward with Black Panther 3. After the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever in 2022, Coogler said he wanted to continue with the Black Panther franchise, and that seems to be happening. Check out the full quote below:
I played Othello at 22, I’m now going to play it at 70. After that, I’m playing Hannibal. After that, I’ve been talking with Steve McQueen about a film. After that, Ryan Coogler is writing a part for me in the next Black Panther.
What Denzel Washington’s Black Panther 3 Comments Mean
The MCU Is Getting Another Major Star
Washington's comments are exciting because they bring along two fantastic confirmations. The Black Panther franchise has produced some of the best MCU movies. Ryan Coogler does a great job with word building, exploring Wakanda in great depth over two films. Despite having lost Chadwick Boseman's T'Challa, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever showed that Letitia Wright's Shuri is a worthy successor to his superhero mantle. After the movie grossed $859.2 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo, it is clear that there is still a lot of interest in the Black Panther franchise, so a third entry makes sense.
As for Washington, the actor's talent is widely known. Denzel has made a name for himself in Hollywood, with the actor having so many impactful, dramatic roles and nerve-wracking action movies that it is hard to count. While older, Washington could still play an integral part in the MCU, and Black Panther 3 is the perfect project for that journey to begin. Marvel fans have long requested for Washington to play Blue Marvel in the MCU. As the character is also known as a veteran hero, Washington could very well end up playing him in Black Panther 3.
Our Take On Denzel Washington’s Black Panther 3 Comments
The Black Panther Never Seizes To Amaze
Denzel Washington joining the MCU is great news. The actor has the skills to play villains and heroes alike, making his casting an intriguing one. While I think that Blue Marvel is the ideal role for him in the franchise, I could also see Marvel pulling a major twist and having Washington play Magneto in Black Panther 3, especially if it is set after the Multiverse Saga ends. Either way, just the fact that Denzel Washington is joining the MCU and doing so in Black Panther 3 — which is now confirmed without an official announcement — is exciting.
