Derek Carr Has Message for Raiders & Mark Davis Following Retirement News

The big NFL news of the weekend has revolved around New Orleans Saints quarterback Derek Carr. His status for 2025 came into question recently after it was revealed that he needed shoulder surgery.

Instead of going through a risky surgery, Carr opted to retire. He's retiring as a Saint, but that's not the team that he'll be remembered for.

He spent nine years as the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders and nearly won the MVP in 2016 if it weren't for a leg injury that knocked him out at the end of the season. Though his time in Las Vegas ended in less than ideal circumstances for the quarterback, he made sure to show them and team owner Mark Davis some love after the retirement news.

"'Thank you' doesn’t say enough," Carr wrote on Instagram. "To my incredible family and friends thank you for your love and support. To the Raiders and Saints organizations, Mr. Davis and Mrs. Benson thank you for giving me the opportunity to live out a childhood dream. To every coach who shaped me, every teammate I went to battle with, and every opponent who pushed me I’m grateful for the grind, the memories, and the brotherhood. To the fans thank you for riding with me through the highs, the lows, the injuries, the comebacks, the records, and the Pro Bowls.

"Through it all, I gave this game everything I had every single day. I sleep well knowing that I gave my teammates, my coaches, and my cities my all. Now, I look forward to whatever God has next and I’ll pursue it with the same fire I brought to the field. God bless, and see you soon."

Carr retires as the Raiders' franchise leader in passing yards, completions and passing touchdowns.
