Derek Forbort Signs With Pacific Division Club

Derek Forbort is joining his former teammates.

Derek Forbort's time with the Boston Bruins is officially over, as he has signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Vancouver Canucks.

Forbort is the third Bruins free agent to head to Vancouver today, as Jake DeBrusk and Danton Heinen also became Canucks.

The expectation was that the Bruins would move on from Forbort this offseason, and now they have done just that. With Mason Lohrei and Parker Wotherspoon both emerging as NHL talents this year, the Bruins were in a position to let Forbort walk. This became even more of the case after they signed Nikita Zadorov.

Forbort will likely play bottom-pairing minutes for the Canucks and be used on their penalty kill as well. It is understandable that they have brought him in, as they not only lost Zadorov but also Ian Cole this offseason, who signed with Utah.

In 35 games this season with the Bruins, Forbort had four assists, 68 hits, and a plus-8 rating.
