Derek Hough & Hayley Erbert Expecting First Baby After Miracle Recovery!

Derek Hough and wife Hayley Erbert, are expecting their first baby together.

“We can’t believe the biggest thing to happen to us could be so small,” Erbert, 30, captioned her Instagram announcement video on Tuesday, July 22. The short clip featured Derek, 40, walking toward his wife who wrapped her arms around his neck and showed off ultrasound photos. Her baby bump could be also be seen in the video.

The former Dancing With the Stars pro and current judge met Erbert after she was cast as one of the dancers for his and sister Julianne Hough’s Move Live Tour in 2014. After working together for more than a year, the couple officially began dating. Derek proposed in June 2022.

“I just love calling her my fiancée,” Derek exclusively told Us at the time. “I think that word now feels right to the way I feel and to my commitment to her and to our love and story and life together. … Hayley is The One.”

He added, “I know she’s just going to be an amazing mother and amazing wife and she’s so thoughtful, so caring, so loving. Just seeing the way she is with our animals, I mean if she’s even a quarter of the way she is with our animals how she is with our kids I just can’t wait to see her be a mom.”

The couple tied the knot in August 2023. Months later, their marital bliss came to an end when Erbert experienced a major health struggle. While she was waiting to take the stage during a December 2023 date of her and Derek’s Symphony of Dance Tour, Erbert suffered a near-fatal cranial hematoma. She was rushed to the hospital and underwent an emergency craniectomy.

“At the end of last night’s tour performance in Washington, D.C., my wife Hayley became disoriented and was taken to the hospital,” Derek shared in a statement at the time. “She was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma from a burst blood vessel and required an emergency craniectomy.”

A little more than one year after her emergency surgery, Hayley returned to the DWTS ballroom alongside Derek for an emotional performance set to “Beautiful Things” by Benson Boone.

“I just remember laying on the hospital floor and just begging” for her to stay alive, Derek said of his wife ahead of the performance. The recovery process was “hard” for Erbert, he added but had faith knowing that she was OK upon waking up.

“Knowing that she was there, she was in there, the relief I felt,” Hough said, referring to Erbert as his “beautiful miracle.”
