Derek Hough Teases Family Plans With Wife Hayley Erbert — Are Kids in the Cards Soon?

“Dancing With the Stars” judge Derek Hough and his wife Hayley Erbert may be thinking of starting a family.

On Monday, March 24, Hough took to his Instagram Stories to wish DWTS pro Val Chmerkovskiy a happy birthday. He shared a throwback photo of him and Chmerkovskiy and added a sweet caption.

“Happy birthday my man,” Hough began. “Thank you for pushing me as a performer, dancer, competitor and being an example of a great father for when that day comes,” he continued, adding the prayer hands emoji.

Derek Hough Previously Said That Val Chmerkovskiy’s Son Rome Made Him & Hayley Erbert Want to Have Kids Sooner

Hough and Erbert have been open about wanting to start a family. However, the pair, who tied the knot in 2023, seemed to want to enjoy some of their newlywed years before adding a baby into the mix.

However, watching their friends have kids has really pushed up their timeline.

“There wasn’t a rush on [having kids] until we just met Val and Jenna Chmerkovskiy’s baby, and that was when it was kinda like, ‘Should we get on this now?’” Hough told Entertainment Tonight in February 2023.

“It was pretty special and actually it was cool because Val, he was like, ‘Bro, for somebody who was created to create, this will be your ultimate creation,” Hough continued.

In September 2024, Hough told E! News that babies were definitely in his and Erbert’s future.

“We definitely want to have a family eventually. We’ll see what’s in the cards, what’s on the horizon. Little dancing children running around,” Hough told the outlet.

Derek Hough & Hayley Erbert Have Been Focused on Their Careers

There are likely a plethora of reasons why Hough and Erbert haven’t started a family together. However, one of those reasons could very well be that they are focused on their respective careers.

For starters, they’ve been on tour together, dancing all over the United States. And, of course, Hough has his seasonal job on “Dancing With the Stars.” Moreover, there has been some chatter about Erbert getting on the show as a pro.

In an interview with SheKnows Soaps in September 2024, Hough seemed to drop a hint about his wife joining the show. When he was asked if he though that him being a judge would be a conflict of interest, he said no.

“I don’t foresee it being a problem, you know. My sister Julianne was a judge and I was a contestant on the show. If anything, it’s actually a detriment because she definitely was harder,” Hough told the outlet.
