Does Red Sox’ Alex Corа аgree һe’s ‘tһe fасe of tһe frаnсһіse’?

Red Sox manager Alex Cora has called slugger Rafael Devers the face of the franchise multiple times.

Alex Cora

Team president Sam Kennedy called Alex Cora "the face of the franchise."

But is it actually Cora himself? That’s what Red Sox team president Sam Kennedy called Cora after the manager signed a contract extension reportedly in the range of three years, $21.75 million Wednesday.

“Yes, he’s our manager but he’s so much more than that. He rightly has become the face of the franchise in so many ways,” Kennedy told MassLive’s Chris Cotillo. “He just cares so much. He connects with our fans in the most authentic way. Equally as important, he connects with our players. He connects with every member of the front office and that’s just a huge testament to him.

What does Cora think about Kennedy calling him the face of the franchise?

“I’m just part of the organization,” Cora said. “Obviously there’s something that comes with this job, with this platform that I’m the only one who talks to you guys before and after games from the first spring training game on, all the way to the last one. I see it more as a spokesman than the face of the franchise. Like I said, my impact is before the game. Obviously during the game making decisions but what we do is prepare guys to be great. To maximize their talents and go out there and perform. If Sam feels that way, good for him. I always tell him, don’t talk too much to the media. But the fact that I’m going to be part of this the next three years, it means a lot. I know what it means to be a Red Sox. I know what it means to show up every day and to work hard for this to happen. And I’m just happy to be here.”
