Alex meets with Kate in the Pub to make his pitch for Stephanie’s tastefully written smutty novel. He hands Kate the manuscript, telling her the writer prefers to stay anonymous. Kate flips through, admitting there could be a market for this type of thing.

But she ran Titan Publishing a lifetime ago. Alex asks her to read through and give her honest opinion, to which she asks what she gets out of it. This is potentially a giant time-drain, which Alex knows. If this is successful, he wants to relaunch Titan Publishing with Kate running it.

She’ll think about it — if he assures her it’s not a scam. It’s not. Kate heads out, promises to read the manuscript and talk about it further.

In her apartment, Stephanie hands Jada some coffee when she gets up. They talk a bit about how frustrating EJ’s shooting has been, only for Shawn to call and tell Jada he’s out sick. Jada and Stephanie are both talking about how grateful they are for each other’s support, when Steph notices her manuscript is missing.

She tears through the apartment, but when Jada offers to help look, Stephanie hurries them both out the door for breakfast. They head to Sweet Bits.

Sarah and Maggie Worry About Xander

Sarah and Maggie get downstairs after putting Victoria down for a nap. They jump right into Xander’s sudden disappearance at the hospital, and his bid for the sepsis drug. Maggie wonders if EJ stole the drug, but Sarah thinks her husband had another idea in mind when he ran off.

“Wherever he is, I hope he’s not getting himself into any trouble.” Sarah tries calling, but Xander doesn’t answer. She’s worried he’s doing something terrible. (Which he is.) She also worries that Xander wouldn’t be this caring towards her if he knew she’d been keeping Philip’s secret. Maggie reminds her that it’s way past being able to tell Xander, so it’s time

Sarah heads in to work, asking Maggie to call her when he gets home. Maggie cheerfully tells Sarah that Xander’s Versavix ploy seems like a Victor plot.

Xander Beats Philip Up

Philip’s bleeding on the floor in his room, trying to crawl away from Xander, only for his brother to keep beating him. Xander kicks him again and again, telling him there’s no saving him. As Philip gasps for breath, Xander crouches down to tell him how pathetic he is, how much Victor was ashamed of him and how he ruined their family. “God knows who else was forced to cover for you.”

Days Xander hauls a beaten, unconscious Philip onto his bed in the Salem Inn

Xander tells Philip he never wants to see him again, but as he’s walking out, Philip mutters, “Sarah… knew.” Then he falls unconscious. Xander hauls him onto the bed, then picks up Philip’s phone, sees something and runs off, seconds before Kate arrives. She screams and runs over to her son.

Shawn and Steve Corner Kevin

Shawn, of course, is not sick, just talking very publicly with Steve in the square about the Versavix theft. They briefly mention that John should be getting back to Salem tonight, then decide that Shawn should give his high school buddy Kevin a call. Shawn doesn’t get why Kevin would do this, but gives him a call.

Kevin tries calling Philip again with the batch of drugs, growing increasingly panicked. His phone rings, but it’s Dr. Russell. He doesn’t answer, but tries calling Philip again. When Kevin’s phone rings a second time, though, it’s Shawn. When his old friend asks to meet, Kevin tries turning him down until Shawn mentions Versavix. He agrees to head to the Horton Town Square.

Jada and Stephanie run across Steve and Shawn in the square, where they make an excuse about being there, with Shawn pretending unconvincingly to be sick. The ladies leave just before Kevin meets with Steve and Shawn.

Stephanie and Jada return from Sweet Bits, wondering what’s going on, but get distracted by Alex’s arrival. Then Jada gets a beep and has to run off to the hospital, but not before suspiciously eying the trio of guys across the square.

Alex and Stephanie wonder what Shawn and Steve are doing with the guy (Alex remembers meeting him at the Bistro), when Xander tries rushing by. Alex wants to talk over things, but Xander says the hospital deal hit a snag and runs off. That worries Alex, then Stephanie launches into worrying about where her manuscript is.

Oh, yeah, he has it! That’s a relief to Stephanie, because she changed her mind and doesn’t want her novel published. Oops.

Kevin Doesn’t Have the Drug

Across the square. Steve and Shawn lay out that they know Versavix was stolen, but it’s not being reported to the police. Shawn’s candid about breaking into the lab, figuring he can trust his old pal. They know Kevin beat them to the punch, but he breaks the news that he doesn’t have the drug anymore.

After some convincing, they get him to tell them what happened. Philip had him steal it, and he tried doing it without being found out, but panicked, took the whole batch, couldn’t get hold of Philip, then gave it to his roommate (who works in the hospital) to get the batch back.

Philip’s In Serious Trouble

Philip’s rushed into the hospital, where Sarah takes over from a panicked Kate. While Kate paces, Jada shows up, promising to find out who did this. Kate tells the commish what she found, and makes it clear she thinks Xander did it. She neglects to mention the whole fraud thing, though.

Sarah’s examining Philip, who’s in rough shape. She’s worried Xander did this.

In the Show’s Final Moments

Alex tries talking Stephanie into changing her mind, but she doesn’t want to risk being found out as the writer. She asks him to not show her novel to his editor. “I’ve made up my mind.” He reluctantly agrees.

Xander gets home to ice his very bloody knuckles, where Maggie finds him, wondering what happened. He makes an excuse, then Maggie asks why he ran off on Sarah. A major deal fell through, he says. Maggie mostly shrugs it off, then tells him to call Sarah. She’s got questions for him. “I’m sure she does. I’ve got a few things I’d like to ask her as well.”

Sarah tells Kate and Jada that Philip is unconscious, but stable. He’s got organ damage and extensive injuries. Jada doesn’t waste any time in asking where Xander is, because he had a motive.

Shawn and Steve tell Kevin to call his roommate to get the drug, they’ll take what they need and handle getting it back to the lab. It’s all good! Kevin calls, but this guy isn’t picking up either. He calls another colleague and learns the drug isn’t back yet. He’s got no clue where his roommate is.
