‘Dream Scenario’ for 49ers to Play in Super Bowl at Levi’s This Season

Now that the NFL season is officially here, the quest for the Super Bowl kicks into high gear. As all 32 teams open training camp this week, the main focus for all of them is how they can get to the end and be the last team standing come February. The road is long and grueling, but the satisfaction and glory that comes from lifting the Lombardi Trophy is what players strive for.

But for the San Francisco 49ers, winning the big game is not their only goal– it is winning the game in front of their home fans. For the second time since 2015, the Super Bowl will be held at Levi’s Stadium– home of the 49ers. Last time the Super Bowl was played there, the 49ers were in the middle of a rebuild and fell way short of even reaching the postseason. But this time around, the 49ers are locked in and ready to go, hoping that they can fulfill that goal.

Playing in the Super Bowl at Levi’s a ‘Dream Scenario’

The site for the Super Bowl is announced well in advance and as soon as Levi’s Stadium was announced as the host site, members of the 49ers began to think about the possibility of winning a championship at home.

“I think we’ve been talking about it since we found out two years ago,” 49ers fullback, Kyle Juszczyk, said. “That’s the dream scenario: That it ends there. I hope that’s how it works out. It’s July. I’ve got to give you the classic: ‘You can’t look that far ahead. It’s all about training camp in two weeks.’ So that’s what I’ll say.”

But getting back there could once again prove to be a very tall task for the new look 49ers. A season after coming up just short in Super Bowl LVIII, the 49ers took a major step back in 2024 all while keeping their core intact– dealing with numerous injuries and underperformances en route to going 6-11 and missing the postseason for the first time since 2020. Finances played a huge role, but the 49ers cut ties with multiple starters and now have a revamped roster heading into 2025.

Kyle Shanahan Comments on the Current State of Roster

Shanahan admitted that the 49ers took one last shot with their contending roster last season and is not ready to think ‘title’ with this year’s team just yet. In fact, in April, Shanahan said that some difficult times could be ahead– but hopes that the growing pains result in sustainable success in the future.

“I’m not enjoying it, but it’s something we’re going to get through,” Shanahan said. “And I think we’ll come out on the good end here in the long run.”

Regardless of where the 49ers are right now, there is no denying that there is full belief from within that they can continue to contend in the NFC. Handing out massive contract extensions to Brock Purdy, George Kittle and Fred Warner, the franchise made sure to keep their most important pieces around long term– with the hope that they can win a title in the window of their contracts.
