DWTS Alum Jamie Lynn Spears’ 17-Year-Old Daughter Vulnerably Opens Up About Major ATV Incident

Popular “Dancing with the Stars” alum Jamie Lynn Spears’ 17-year-old daughter, Maddie, is getting candid about a life-threatening accident. Maddie is now speaking publicly for the first time about the traumatic ATV accident that nearly claimed her life when she was just 8 years old.

In a YouTube video posted Tuesday, August 12, Maddie shared stories about various injuries she has sustained over the years.

Maddie Says She Was “In a Coma” & “Came Back to Life”

At one point, she revealed details about the accident, saying, “I did have an accident, though. I was in a coma, and I came back to life, and I’m very blessed. So yeah, I’ve just been very accident-prone. I swear my parents are amazing, and they did not do anything to me.”

The clip marked the first time Maddie has personally spoken about the incident that left her in critical condition.

After Maddie’s video went live, Spears reposted it to Instagram on Wednesday, August 13, praising her daughter for opening up about the “not so fun” parts of her life.

“What was supposed to be a fun way to document her senior year on @youtube has now turned into a way for her to share the not so fun parts of life too,” Spears wrote.

“You can work so hard, and do everything right, yet still face adversity, no matter what path you’re on in life. You can’t control everything that happens to you, but you can decide how you react to what happens to you.”

“I know being a resilient person is one of the best qualities a human can have, but it’s only earned by having no other choice but to be resilient,” she continued. “Gotta trust Gods plan. I’m so proud of this kid, she never lets anything or anyone sit her down, and sharing her journey through it all hopefully inspires others to never stop going hard for what they want out of life. LFG 🤙🏻.”

Remembering the Day That Changed Everything

Spears, who shares Maddie with ex-fiancé Casey Aldridge, has reflected on the accident multiple times over the years.

In 2023, she bravely spoke about it on “Good Morning America”. In February 2024, she posted hospital photos on Instagram to mark the seventh anniversary of the crash, calling it their “#MIRACLEANNIVERSARY.”

“Every year that passes and I watch my daughter grow up, the more I realize how very blessed we are, and never want to take that for granted,” she wrote. “Again, thank you to all the healthcare professionals who made the life saving decisions, and thank you to each and every person who prayed for our baby girl.” Spears also paid tribute to Father Mark, describing him as “like an angel on earth” who helped them through that day.

Spears’ Harrowing Recount on Reality TV

In November 2023, during her appearance on the U.K. reality series “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here,” Spears described the terrifying moment she almost lost her daughter.

“I almost lost my oldest daughter,” she said. “She drowned and we couldn’t save her. We tried really hard. She was trapped under a little side-by-side that we ride around our pond.”

“My father-in-law, my mother-in-law, me and my husband, we run to jump in to save her and you kind of — in that moment you think, ‘This is not real. She’s going to pop up, this isn’t real,’” Spears recalled. “I could feel her arm, and I’m jerking it, I couldn’t get her up because it’s a pretty heavy machine. In that moment you think, you know logically she’s been underwater too long.”
