DWTS Alum Says He’s at a ‘New Low’ Mentally and Emotionally

Former “Dancing with the Stars” finalist and “Malcolm in the Middle”actor Frankie Muniz recently shared a candid message about his mental health. On April 21, Muniz posted on X, stating, “If I’m being 100% honest… Mentally/emotionally I may be at a new low. Just wanted to say it out loud.”

The post prompted dozens of supportive messages from fans and followers.. One user commented, “The fact that you’re comfortable saying it shows you’re growing. Keep it up.” Another shared, “Keep pushing through it, Frankie. Every day is a new opportunity to make things better.” A third added, “Glad you said it so you know how much support is around you and available to you.”

The emotional message comes after recent hurdles in Muniz’s racing career. On April 18, he experienced a major setback during the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Rockingham Speedway when his power steering line burst, forcing him to withdraw due to physical pain. Despite a strong start to the season with a 10th-place finish at Daytona, Muniz has since struggled to finish higher than 21st. He acknowledged the toll the situation has taken on him but remains committed to improving and earning respect in the sport.

I thought I was going to go IndyCar, kind of the Formula 1 route, but I always had in the back of my mind that I wanted to try NASCAR,” Muniz told People. “I grew up watching NASCAR. I was a huge fan, but it’s not something I necessarily thought that I’d ever get the opportunity to do.”

He continues to train and race full-time, despite setbacks, and has made it clear that he intends to continue working toward success on the track. As previously reported, racing has been more than a sport for Muniz—it’s been a lifelong goal.
