A former “Dancing with the Stars” contestant just got engaged to her long-time professional football player beau. Season 24 third-place DWTS finisher Normani accepted the proposal from Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver “DeKaylin” DK Metcalf.
Metcalf casually revealed the big engagement news on March 13 during a Steelers press conference.
DK Metcalf Proposed With Both Families Present
Midway through the press conference, a reporter brought up the engagement.
Metcalf responded, “Yes sir” to the mention of the engagement and nodded to Normani who was standing to the side. “She[‘s] right there. Hold that rock up, baby,” he said.
He revealed he proposed while he and Normani were in Houston, Texas with both his family and hers. Metcalf explained it was his sister’s spring break and he thought it would be nice to connect both families by proposing.
The decision to propose to Normani was not a rushed move. Metcalf revealed he “tried” to propose last year, but her busy schedule created a wrinkle in his original timing.
When Metcalf decided now was finally the right time to propose, he started sending her flowers with notes attached. Then, he explained during the press conference, the last letter with the last bouquet contained the big “Will you marry me?” question.
Fans of the couple were thrilled for them.
“Oh my! He is so happy! I’m here smiling so hard like he’s about to be my brother in law,” one fan tweeted.
“His pride and joy are palpable. How beautiful,” tweeted another supporter.
“This is the cutest thing because he is so proud. I love this for them,” someone else added.
The NFL Star Feels Everything in Life Is Falling Into Line
Metcalf is new to the Steelers, having been with the Seattle Seahawks previously. He shared during the press conference that he’s excited and feels it’s “just a big blessing.”
He shared he’s got a new home and a new fiancee, and “everything’s just falling in line, just the way God planned it for it to be.”
As Us Weekly noted, Metcalf and Normani were initially set up by his teammate, Russell Wilson, and Wilson’s wife, singer Ciara. The couple began dating in 2022.
In June 2024, Normani told Rolling Stone that Metcalf was “Definitely an answered prayer.” She said she was “very happy” in her relationship with Metcalf and acknowledged she’s “experienced a lot with relationships.”
“I wear my heart on my sleeve, and finding space where that’s reciprocated feels good. I like to see myself happy,” she added.
