Dancing With the Stars fans are gearing up for a new season of the popular dance competition show. However, as production has been revealing some of the celebrities who will compete for the Mirrorball Trophy, many fans have been left unimpressed.
Things seemed to kick off on a high note when Robert Irwin officially joined the cast. Fans have been wanting to see Irwin on the show ever since his older sister Bindi Irwin won the Mirrorball alongside Derek Hough in 2015.
Then, when Alix Earle was confirmed as part of the cast, fans seemed a bit disappointed, mainly because Earle is an influencer and not a "star" in the traditional sense.
On July 1, two more stars were confirmed for Season 34 — Jen Affleck and Whitney Leavitt from The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
It didn't take long for Reddit threads to fill up with comments from fans who are unhappy to see not one but two people from that reality television show joining the cast.
"Why would they cast two from the same show? Aren't there only like 8 cast members for this show to begin with, and now two of them are going to take spots on DWTS?" one person wondered.
"I hate this trend of making random not great people super famous and rich," someone else added.
"This is how I feel. I don’t know anything about them and now for women we have these two young blondes, plus Alix. I was pretty excited when Robert was announced and now I’m not. Do you have to be young and blonde to be on this season? Hopefully we can just skip the Bachelor cast this year since we are getting these two reality stars," a third comment read.
"I'm not happy about this. I miss seeing actual stars on the show who come from series or television movies. Even singers and athletes. I'm tired of watching random TikTok and reality stars, especially two of them. I understand they want to grow their audience, but I feel that this approach could also alienate some viewers, particularly older fans," a fourth Redditor said.
More casting announcements could be made in the next several weeks ahead of the show's September premiere.
