“Dancing With the Stars” pro Peta Murgatroyd was hospitalized after coming down with the flu.
The mom of three shared the news on her Instagram Stories on April 9. She was visiting Orlando, Florida, with her husband, Maks Chmerkovskiy, and two of their three children — Shai, 8, and Rio, almost 2 — fell ill.
“I thought it was finally time to get on here, guys, just to fill you in on what’s been happening,” the professional dancer began. “We all got terribly, terribly sick in Orlando, Florida.”
During the trip, the Chmerkovskiy family visited with “Dancing With the Stars” pro Witney Carson and her family, who moved to Florida a couple of years ago. The Chmerkovskiys had also planned a trip to Disney World and to Universal Studios, but were unable to visit the theme parks because they all got sick.
Peta Murgatroyd & Her Family Made it Back to Los Angeles
Murgatroyd detailed the timeline of the flu outbreak and how it hit each member of her family — except for Milan who was at home in Los Angeles with Chmerkovskiy’s parents.
“We were having the best time in Orlando. The kids were having a blast,” Murgatroyd continued. After spending the day at Carson’s home, Murgatroyd started to feel off, experiencing a “scratchy” throat. She also said that Shai had a headache and Chmerkovskiy had felt off for part of the day, but didn’t think too much of it.
The sickness hit hard after that, with all three coming down with severe flu symptoms, including high fevers, body aches, and chills.
“We woke up the next day on our death beds,” Murgatroyd said. Rio was next to get sick, “vomiting everywhere.”
It all started on Saturday, and on Monday, they were scheduled to fly home. After some consideration, they decided to head to the airport — despite not being any better.
Peta Murgatroyd Sought Medical Attention
After three days of spiking high fevers, Murgatroyd said she “kept getting worse” and ultimately asked Chmerkovskiy to take her to the hospital. She tested positive for Influenza A and doctors also suspected that she may have a touch of pneumonia.
After receiving treatment and fluids, Murgatroyd started to feel a bit more like herself. Murgatroyd called the whole situation “horrible” and “traumatic.” Murgatroyd also said that she and Chmerkovskiy both lost a considerable amount of weight due to the illness.
“Hopefully I’m going to be back up and running very, very soon,” she added. “This has just been absolutely wild,” she added.
