Eagles could find missing inexpensive puzzle piece to 2025 team with former LB

Everyone wants the Philadelphia Eagles to go out and make a home run trade or free agent signing because that's what general manager Howie Roseman has done in the past. Not this offseason.

Roseman has stood by his decision with the team's plan to save money and develop younger players. The Eagles have not been shy about making free agent signings, but all 12 of their signings were on one-year deals. Philly's long-term plans are for the second- and third-year players to see significant playing time on the field in 2025.

It doesn't mean the Eagles shouldn't continue to look for players elsewhere. There are still good free agents out there that won't cost the Eagles more than $5 million, stay under the age of 30, and bring back a familiar face to the team.

Bleacher Report writer Brent Sobleski compiled a list of six free agents who are under 30 and made $5 million or less a season ago. One of those was former Eagles linebacker Kyzir White.

"The 29-year-old veteran is reliable. The league's physicality hasn't worn him down. In fact, he's played in all 17 regular-season games during three of the last four campaigns.

Due to White's production and consistency, the free agent's asking price may be higher than the current market dictates. Or, potential suitors see that he's struggled more in coverage the longer he's been in the league. Whatever the case may be, White can enter the lineup and still deliver when it comes to bringing down ball-carriers."

Should the Eagles consider bringing in White?

White played just one season with the Eagles as Roseman signed him back in 2022. He played well in his lone year in Philly as he made 110 tackles, seven pass deflections, three tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, and 1.5 sacks in 17 games.

After the 2022 season, White followed former Eagles defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon to the Arizona Cardinals, where he will be one of the starting linebackers in 2023 and 2024. White racked up 227 tackles in Arizona, including 137 last year, the second highest amount of his career.

Philadelphia is banged up at linebacker, and there have been questions about the depth of the unit. Rookie first-round pick Jihaad Campbell and Nakobe Dean are recovering from their offseason surgeries and hope to be on the field by training camp. It has been Zack Baun and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. taking the first-team snaps.

Calling White might not be a bad idea for Roseman. The injuries going into training camp will truly test whether the team is deep enough at linebacker. Bringing in White instantly gives them a solid backup and would give Campbell more time to recover from injury.

Roseman wouldn't have to pay him a ton of money and put him on a one-year deal to see what happens in 2025. Players on that defense know White, and there could be chemistry already built there despite the scheme being different.

It's unknown whether the Eagles will make any further moves before the regular season, but adding White helps alleviate their linebacker depth concerns and only makes the team stronger.
