Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeVonta Smith is known for his game-changing speed and hands — but this offseason, he’s making headlines for helping kids unlock their potential far beyond the football field.
Smith has officially launched the “Route to Readiness” initiative, a free SAT prep and college readiness program for high school juniors and seniors in underserved communities throughout Philadelphia. The program includes weekend tutoring sessions, test prep materials, and one-on-one mentorship — all fully funded by Smith’s foundation.
“Not everyone’s going to the NFL,” Smith said. “But everyone deserves a shot at their dream. If I can give them that edge, I’m doing my job off the field too.”
The idea came after Smith met a local high school student at a charity event who told him he couldn’t afford SAT prep. That moment sparked a mission: remove the financial barriers that often hold students back from college success.
The program launched with over 120 students enrolled, each receiving access to resources that many of their peers pay thousands of dollars for. Smith has partnered with former educators and admissions counselors to ensure the curriculum is top-tier.
The impact is already being felt. “DeVonta is changing lives. He’s giving these kids hope and tools,” said one program tutor. Smith visits sessions regularly and says he’s just getting started — future plans include internship connections and college tour funding.
On and off the field, DeVonta Smith is proving that real MVPs help people win where it matters most — in life.
